Buried penis also known as hidden penis or retractile penis is a congenital or acquired condition, in which the penis is partially or completely hidden below the surface of the skin. It was first described by Edward Lawrence Keyes in as the apparent absence of the penis and as being buried beneath the skin of the abdomen, thigh, or scrotum. A buried penis can lead to obstruction of urinary stream, poor hygiene, soft tissue infection , phimosis , and inhibition of normal sexual function. Buried penis is different than micropenis , which is an abnormally small, normally structured penis with a stretched penile length of less than 2. Congenital causes can include the maldevelopment of the penile shaft with a lack of attachments of the shaft skin to the penile shaft. While rare, it can include an abnormally large pubic fat pad and firm tissue that pulls the penis inward. Significant overlying abdominal fat can also create an environment that encourages bacterial and fungal growth.

The perineum in humans is the space between the anus and scrotum in the male and between the anus and the vulva in the female. There is some variability in how the boundaries are defined. The perineum is an erogenous zone for both males and females. The perineum is generally defined as the surface region in both males and females between the pubic symphysis and the coccyx. The perineum is below the pelvic diaphragm and between the legs.
Koro is a culture-bound syndrome delusional disorder in which an individual has an overpowering belief that his or her sex organs are retracting and will disappear, despite the lack of any true longstanding changes to the genitals. The syndrome occurs worldwide, and mass hysteria of genital-shrinkage anxiety has a history in Africa , Asia and Europe. The condition can be diagnosed through psychological assessment along with physical examination to rule out genuine disorders of the genitalia that could be causing true retraction. The word was borrowed from Malay and means the head of a turtle or tortoise , referring to how it looks when they retract their heads into their shells.
